It's like this, Tetsu. To the good people of Tokyo, I'm considered an outsider. To them, I'm not Japanese and I show no desire to throw away my culture to become so. This puts me at a disadvantage already. Because I, as an Okinawan, am not respected by normal citizens, my job is a lot more difficult.
As much as I hate it and it makes me really angry, I do understand where he's coming from. The only way I'm going to be able to be respected enough to be in a higher position of leadership is by proving that I'm the same as them, if not better. Definitely better.
