I'm really disappointed and angry right now. That promotion; I didn't get it. Though of the applicants, I was probably the best choice, it was given to someone else. I was taken into the Superintendent's office and he explained it to me.

It all boils down to one thing.

I'm Okinawan. I'm Okinawan and the other applicants were Tokyo born.

He told me that no one would take me seriously because of that one thing.

It doesn't matter that I have JSDF service and a great arrest record. It doesn't matter that I do my job well and that I can lead a team. Because of my island roots, no one will respect me or listen to me if I were promoted at this time. Maybe next time, after I've proved myself more.

So that's how it is. I have to prove myself? Fine with me. I'll show that closed minded idiot what an islander can do. Next time, I won't get passed over.

That fucking ass! I'd volunteer to kick it, if I didn't know it would make matters only worse. Isn't there anything you can do. Isn't this discrimination at the workplace, there's got to be laws against that!

It's like this, Tetsu. To the good people of Tokyo, I'm considered an outsider. To them, I'm not Japanese and I show no desire to throw away my culture to become so. This puts me at a disadvantage already. Because I, as an Okinawan, am not respected by normal citizens, my job is a lot more difficult.

As much as I hate it and it makes me really angry, I do understand where he's coming from. The only way I'm going to be able to be respected enough to be in a higher position of leadership is by proving that I'm the same as them, if not better. Definitely better.

That being said, it still doesn't mean I don't want to go and punch something really really hard

I could actually provide you with someone to punch, but that might get you suspsended, so rather not. Try boxing? It can really work wonders.

I suppose you know what you're doing... But it would be your right to press charges. You know... I love my home, I love this country, but sometimes I really hate it.

Boxing is surprisingly not on my very long list of martial arts I can kill you with. Maybe I should change that.

I think I'll just go to a gym or something and attack a bag for a while. Least until I'm calm enough not to feel the desire to kick a certain Superintendent in the face.

It can be a challenge, but you know me. I never back down from one. And neither should you.

Sengoku introduced me to the idea some time back. You'd be surprised about the therapeutical effects it provides. All the people you can punch, without actually punching them~ It's amazing!

Way to aim, Eishirou, way to aim. And I'm not. Giving up.

But then again, once you get where you aim, you'll be sure better than anyone else. I still hate that it has happened to you though.

This has to be a fucking joke. The idiot he picked is a slacker. I'm going to go have words with him. This can't be how he handles things. If it is, I'm taking my efforts elsewhere.

Genichirou. It's fine. Don't bother. What's done is done. There's only one thing I can do. Work harder. If I have to prove myself to the entire station, so be it. I won't let this defeat me.

I know. But it's going to be the same no matter where I go. I'm picking my fight, Genichirou, and it's not this one. Let the moron he picked fuck up royally and watch me sweep in the make things right. That is how I win.

You know. Sometimes I forget how different you are from normal mainlanders. Then you go and remind me.

Do what you think is right. I'll be behind you, watching your back.

I would love to see this. But I think it's safer if I just stay at the dojo with the bags for a while.

If you need I can help you with bribery next time. Not that it's okay to do that or anything but what in the actual fuck. That's so screwed up.

I prefer threats of bodily harm to bribery.

It's more so because this is normal. This is why I was an activist when I was younger.

From: [identity profile] tastetensai.livejournal.com
I'm better with bribery than bodily harm though. So I'll leave that to you and take care of the sweet talking~

Yeah I now. The amount of prejudice in this country is sickening. I mean so what if you're Okinawan? You're still Japanese. You're also probably better than most of the force (Sanada excluded because bias~) combined and deserve the promotion!

From: [identity profile] captain-kite.livejournal.com
You're good people. You and the rest of Rikkai. I saw how you all were with Jackal.

And you're almost right. I am better than most of the force, but Sanada and I are on equal footing, though I think I'm two arrests ahead of him right now. But we all know it's not marret. It's obviously who's more acceptable to the little mainland sheep.

Our beautiful Brazillian bald bombshell~ haha he's a powerhouse. Of course we liked him! But beyond what he could do for the team he's a pretty cool guy and yeah we learned that 'outsiders' aren't really outsiders if we let em in. We were all on the same time and all. Your boss obviously doesn't realize that or the advantage of having you fill the promo. It's his loss not yours.

Date: 2014-03-14 01:58 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] captain-kite.livejournal.com
If only others could learn that. And it is his loss. Like I told Genichirou, I can always wait until the man screws up and then sweep in. Unless Genichirou gets fired...Then I'll still sweep in until such time as we can figure out what to do.

Y'know that ain't a half bad idea. Maybe you can even vie for your bosses job that way~ But hey if they're still giving you shit there's better places to work and more police departments in other areas of the city.

I have a feeling I'll be calling Genichirou boss before that. But you're right. There are other stations. Linear transfer is pretty easy. There's just a lot of paperwork involved.

Ahn? Choosing the second best based on faulty personal opinion is bad business. How ridiculous.

[ooc: There might be an upsurge in positive Okinawan presence in dramas, CMs and documentaries in the next few months. Not saying who would do such a thing, of course.]

Not just personal opinion. It seems to be a theme with the Mainland. I'm sure if your name was not Atobe, you would get it as well, for being Half

[ooc; awwwww. Atobe is love<3]

Even the people of Osaka think of themselves as Japanese first. It is important to remember than for all you have cultural differences, you are still One of Us.

Half? I am not Half. My grandmother is Half. I am Japanese.

[ooc: Oo, hit a sore spot, I guess! Who knew!]

[ooc2: And no offense meant to the delightful people of Osaka...but you are represented as being a trifle nutty in the media! ;)]

If I were to conform, to kill my culture. If I learned to not have my accent or started believing what Tokyoites believed and acted as they act, it wouldn't be an issue. However I am Okinawan, unrepentantly so. I will not change the way I am just so that I "fit in".

Pardon me. I apologize.

That is utter ridiculousness. Tokyo does not equal Japan. I am rather disappointed with this attitude.

[ooc: Oo, when he says "rather disappointed," I feel that will be inspiring him to work to fix that...it will take a while though, he feels long lasting and true change needs to be subtle so people think it is their own idea.]

It's been this way since the time of our father's fathers. Even longer. To be Okinawan on the mainland is to be a second class citizen. Mainlanders treat us like this even in our own homes. This is why I was part of the Independence Movement as a teen.

[ooc: the movement is something that occurs regularly down on the Islands. The okinawans want autonomy from Japan. To be their own country. Because the Mainland never seems to have Okinawa's best interests in mind.]

If the people of Japan can learn to be more accepting of foreigners, Koreans and Halfs, they can learn to accept Okinawans.

[ooc: Yes, I imagine that the people of Puerto Rico could completely sympathize!]
